PhD Programs

PhD Programs:

  1. PhD in Climate and Food Systems
  2. PhD in Climate and Forest Resources
  3. PhD in Meteorology and Climate Science

The PhD programs are generally research-based delivered on full-time basis. However, this doesn’t mean “no courses” rather they have to score at least 32 ECTS to qualify for graduation. The promotor (s) and supervisors together with the student will decide which courses to take in support of their research work. These should be high level courses which are usually offered in collaboration with partner universities at MU, or elsewhere. Students have to report regularly every semester to the Institute Graduate Council (IGC) and routinely to promoters/supervisors.

Study duration

The PhD programs are normally set for 4 years, with a lower limit of 3 years and upper limit of 6 years. Students delaying above 4 years need to justify to both the promotors and the institute graduate council for further extension. Thus, the continuation of the PhD candidate will be a maximum of 6 years whenever the student provides valid reasons confirmed by the promotor.

Graduation requirements

The potential candidate is eligible for graduation when he/she fulfils the following requirements:

  1. Had fulfilled the requirements of the Training and Supervision Plan (TSP) (Appendix 7 of the

PhD protocol: rules and regulations).

  • At least one article published in reputed and peer reviewed journal.
  • The thesis is approved by the promotor and the examination board/Jury
  • Submit letter of testimony to the Institute Graduate Council
  • Successful defense of the doctoral dissertation
